Body in question is a diary come to life, portraying the true story of an Australian dancer who – after paralysing one of his arms in a motorcycle accident – journeys through the worlds of medicine, rehabilitation and disability, in search of self-expression.
Through an intricate ballet of billowing fabric and a highly personal choreography, James Cunningham transforms a stricken limb into a visceral challenge. He reinvents the choreographic space, entering into a breath-taking dance/duel with his puppet, pulling new artistic “strings”.
In the process, Cunningham finds new angles on perceiving the body, and new ways to move and dance.
The result is a unique piece of dance theatre, a moving, original and poetic ballet.
