A poetic, visual biography of a queen.

Eleanor of Aquitaine was Queen of France and England, and a patron of the arts who nurtured the emergence of courtly poetry. This makes her the perfect subject for a mime show defined by its restless imagination and total poetry of movement. Based on the historical figures of Eleanor and King John Lackland and inspired by the works of historian Robert Claing, Omnibus theatre company presents La Flèche et le cœur, a piece in which each dream-like scene distils gesture into symbol, action and pure beauty.
Director Jean Asselin reveals himself as an heir to the great Étienne Decroux, eschewing the anecdotal to get straight to the essence of things.
The ten mimed fragments which make up this performance evoke ideas (loyalty, expiation...) as well as iconic images (captive horses, an arrow striking the heart of the archer...).
Performers Francine Alepin and Jacques E. Le Blanc are two of the greatest mimes to come out of Québec. The musical score is provided by Sylvie Grenier, performing live on period instruments

A moving introspection on memory and forgetting. As a true disciple of Étienne Decroux, Jean Asselin has a marvellous talent for translating emotion into action.
