The combination of these two perspectives – one focused on artistic reflection, the other defined by the quest for physical perfection – has enabled Alexander to bridge the gap between circus performance and dance.
After graduating, Alexander presented his solo piece Caprices in 2014, a choreographic tribute to the music of Salvatore Sciarrino. His next solo show, Aneckxander, was jointly developed with Bauke Lievens in 2015. The show won various awards (Circus Next, Théâtre Aan Zee) and was selected for the Theaterfestival in 2016 and Aerowaves Network Twenty16.
Alexander Vanternhout is a regular visiting professor at Danscentrum Jette, ESAC and ACAPA (Academy of Circus Arts and Performance Arts, Tilburg, NL) and has also been invited to work with DOCH-Stockholm, Codarts, Verigo, Plesni Center and Marbior.
Alexander is a cultural ambassador for the town of Roeselare, Belgium, artist in residence at PRPLX and artist in residence at Vooruit for the period 2017-2021.
