Karine Ponties first immersed herself in dance at the school of Juan Tena and Ramon Soler in Barcelona, before continuing her education at Mudra, Maurice Béjart’s school in Brussels.
She performed with various companies before founding her own,
Dame de Pic, in 1995. In 1996 she staged her first original creation, winning a young artist grant.
Karine Ponties has gone on to write over forty original works, racking up numerous prizes and collaborating with visual artists such as Thierry Van Hasselt, Lawrence Malstaf and Stefano Ricci, as well as composers including Jan Kuijken and Dominique Pauwels. Her award wins have often cited the multi-disciplinary dimension of the company’s work.
Ponties’ artistic universe is defined by her keen sense of the absurd and her profound explorations of intimacy, life and human relationships.
