D’Irque is a circus artist, acrobat-juggler-pyrotechnician and strip-tease-clown. Under his real name, Dirk Van Boxelaere, this Belgian took to the stage fairly late in life (at the age of 24), studying circus in Brussels and Montreal.
Jugglers usually develop their art in great circus families. D’Irque began in the street, a setting that suits him, being much less comfortable than in a theatre or a cabaret but where the unexpected and surprises are ever-present and the rapport with the public is more intense. Although he now also performs in theatres, his numbers are still characterised by this proximity/interactivity with the spectators.
Fien Van Herwegen is a Belgian who began studying music (particularly the piano) in the Hogeschool schone kunsten in Antwerp. She very quickly developed a taste for improvisation and street theatre and participated for 3 years in the BIL Liga, a Belgian improvisation league, before joining D’Irque in 2005.
