Piergiorgio Milano’s career as a choreographer has been defined as a constant interplay between dance, circus performance and theatre. His shows combine refined virtuosity of movement with meticulous theatrical direction, a melding of genres enriched with a heightened aesthetic sensibility.
The power of imagery is of central importance to his work, not least in the form of striking photographic backdrops used to create unique artistic environments, and to stimulate direct emotional responses in all sorts of audiences.
Piergiorgio Milano began his career in 2002 while still a student at the FLIC circus school in Turin (Italy). In 2004 he moved to Toulouse, studying at the National Centre for the Circus Arts at the Lido. This was to be a crucial period in his development, nurturing his passion and talent for contemporary dance. Milano subsequently decided to decamp to Amsterdam, where in 2006 he enrolled at the SNDO (School for New Dance Development). Around this time, he also co-founded the collective 320chili, one of Italy’s foremost contemporary circus troupes. He moved to Brussels in 2008, and from this new base began travelling all over the world performing with a succession of internationally-renowned choreographers. Since 2015, his primary focus has been developing and producing his own original works.
