Sentha has established a long-running collaboration with the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, focusing on research, teaching and new choreographed creations inspired by both East and West. In 2001, six dancers from URBA and the Royal Ballet of Cambodia joined him in a project designed to revive and pass on the traditional repertoire of Cambodian dance through live performances as well as a series of classes at the Charles Munch Conservatory of Dance, Music and the Dramatic Arts (Paris) and the Cambodia Centre at the Cité Internationale. More recently a new generation of artists, brought up with a blend of Khmer family traditions and French morals, are expressing their creativity in original forms while perpetuating Cambodia’s dance heritage. The artists of Le Cabaret des Oiseaux enjoy the prestigious patronage of Norodom Sihamoni, an eminent dancer-choreographer steeped in both the Western and Cambodian classical traditions, a long-time artistic collaborator and friend, and now King of Cambodia.
