The close, fertile collaboration between theatre directors Daniel Calvo-Funes and Martial Anton owes much to the fruitful interaction of their individual styles and contributions, united by a shared vision for the company’s artistic direction.
After two traditional theatre shows they decided to adopt puppetry as their principal mode of artistic expression, thanks in large part to the immense freedom and expressive power synonymous with this art form.
After spending 8 years in the suburbs of Paris, Tro-Heol relocated to Quéménéven (Finistère) in 2003.
Tro-Heol has been a government-accredited theatre company since 2009, and has staged a dozen shows aimed at younger audiences, while also helping to break down the barriers which prevent people from engaging in drama.
The defining characteristics of the company’s work are their exceptional puppet handling skills and their constant investigation of every aspect of the actor/puppet relationship: a re-examination of text and speech fuelled by diverse writing styles, unusual aesthetics and an infectious sense of the fantastical which allows Tro-Heol to address very real subjects with a certain artistic distance.
