Compagnie Lucamoros is about imagery first and foremost. But the company is also fascinated by transparency, the idea of presence and absence co-existing simultaneously, evoked by the screens interposed between audience and artist. Screens which we all know conceal as much as they reveal. How deep does the screen go? As deep as an image? Skin deep? As deep as a shadow? On this canvas the performers let loose with their shadows, brushes and cameras, sketching the contours of a strikingly original theatrical vision. The result is a theatre of illusion created in real time before the audience’s very eyes, a mixture of advanced technology and intuitive improvisation in which visual art, music and text are intimately intertwined. Out on that stage, show after show, the company continues its mission of exploration, pushing ever further into the mystery of mankind’s irresistible fascination with moving images. In an old village cafe, re-baptised the “House behind the trees”, the company pursues its educational mission by giving audiences far removed from the great cultural centres the opportunity to experience free, authentic, passion-driven theatre. They also give children from local schools the chance to really get to grips with the process of artistic creation, meeting the artists while they work and explore their ideas, rather than just turning up occasionally to watch the “finished piece”.
