Primarily comprised of graduates of Studio d’Asnières and the Jacques Lecoq international institute, the artists of Narcisse Théâtre treat each new creation as an opportunity to showcase singular viewpoints and unusual perspectives. This goes to the heart of their artistic philosophy: fostering the unexpected to stimulate new ideas.
Their work places the actor at the heart of the creative process, capitalising on the singularity, vision and contribution of each individual performer. Collectively, they examine mankind’s essential fragility in order to better appreciate the absolute beauty of life: “Looking at life requires us to accept its capacity to run away from us, to unsettle us, to plunge us into unspeakable chaos. To accept the weakness, fragility and necessary imbalances which make up the human soul.” Without ever seeking to denature, debase or diminish the authors’ words, the immediacy of physical performance can help make the work more vividly real to the audience.
As part of an original artistic residency, the company’s performers recently brought the themes and words of Dostoyevsky to seven towns in the Val de Bièvre region, taking their performances out of the theatre and into public spaces.
