A luminous diptych of beauty and emotion on the difficult passage to adulthood.

Six boys, three girls, young recently hatched "fledglings". Perched on a shelter, they discover the world. Still gangly, they explore their bodies, testing their limits…

What does it mean to be young today? What are the options available to young people in our increasingly complex world? Having studied our elders in Échappées belles (seen at Mimos 2015), the Adhok company now focuses on the difficult passage to adulthood in its new Immortels project. On leaving the family nest, young people have to find their way through the adventure of living in a new environment. At an age when everything should be possible, they find themselves faced with a cluttered horizon and an uncertain future.

Designed in the form of a diptych, the show breaks down into two formulas: one fixed (The Nest) and the other ambulatory (Taking Flight). The Nest describes these "fledglings" as they hesitate to fly on their own; Taking Flight recounts the moment when they finally succeed in striking out on their own and follow the example of their elders. Here street theatre in motion becomes an extraordinary tool for describing living situations and cultivating a love of life, offering spectators an echo chamber that resounds with a multiplicity of questions. The young age of the dancers (no older than the roles they play) and their finely tuned sensitivities lend stunning power to a bracing and sensual choreography that is incredibly moving.
