England in the 1960s… Sheila is seventeen years old. She is in love and life is full of promise. Then she gets pregnant. Like so many other women, she is given no choice but to give up her child in the name of a better future. Eighteen years later her daughter, Sarah, sets out to find her mother - but she may very well learn more than she expects.

The Best Thing tells the story of a decade of change in Great Britain: the sexual revolution, women's liberation, political upheaval, radical innovation in fashion and music. The show highlights the often-insurmountable gap between this new social freedom and the moral rigidity of the older generation guided by Church and State, and shows us these two worlds in collision.

Based on a shameful period in modern British history, the experience of single mothers in the 60s, The Best Thing serves as a pretext for exploring the sexual revolution of the 60s, a path littered with pitfalls for an adolescent girl. The story of a broken heart, it is bitter, touching, and heart-rending.
