Founded in Toulouse in 2007 by actress and puppeteer Laetitia Sioen, L’Envers du Monde combines elements of theatre and visual art, incorporating influences from a panoply of artistic disciplines to create original performance pieces. The company’s name (literally “the flip side of the world”) reflects this philosophy: a world open to different cultural horizons and new artistic dimensions. Theatre and visual arts are the raw materials from which L’Envers du Monde crafts its shows, touring them throughout France and all over the world. In theatres, in the atmospheric glow of the stage lights; in motion, during street parades and other fantastical happenings; and in collaborative workshops, where everybody can get involved.
Completely free of dialogue, these shows create a universal language which the whole world can understand.
The company’s performers and technicians are united in the pursuit of their cherished artistic goals: to reach out to the audience, to move them, to spark a reaction, or simply to share a moment together.
Laetitia Sioen dreams up her shows as a way of exploring the world around her. Without words, they exist in their own universal language: Gilou’s Travels (puppetry and shadow theatre), Wings to Dream (theatre of objects). In recent years, L’Envers du Monde has been exploring the uniquely poetic possibilities of bubble art.
