Spettatori
On stage, an “audience” (sat with their backs to the real audience) watches a mime show. Despite their best efforts to understand what is going on, they gradually begin to drift off… until the metal tubes that used to be attached to the wall suddenly fall to the ground. The noise sends the sleepy spectators leaping into the air. Now the show can really begin…
Originally conceived as an end-of-year performance by the graduating class at Scuola Teatro Dimitri, under the watchful eye of Czech director Pavel Stourac, Spettatori has grown to become a fully-fledged show and the founding text of Compagnie Spettatori. Created through the process of collective improvisation, the show combines music and singing (original compositions by the artists) with dance, mime, acrobatics and clowning... All wrapped up to form a deliciously alternative show, as visually stunning as it is relentlessly funny. Pavel Stourac conjures up a kaleidoscopic succession of poetic images, as the realism of the opening scene gradually gives way to an atmosphere of utter surrealism. Who are the actors and who are the spectators; and are we still at the theatre?
