Theater Terra
Appel d'Air begins once the members of the audience are all comfortably lying down on the floor. Because the action takes place up above their heads, with the actors flitting between two overlapping glass stages. The actors are joined by a host of models, since one of the hallmarks of this celebrated Dutch company is their innovative combination of real actors and animated sculptures.
Somewhere up there, somebody slips: a skydiver whose parachute won’t open. His life flashes before his eyes, his memories etched across the sky in a comic strip dotted with clouds.
He relives his childhood, observing from the outside the mysterious, sweet and somehow cruel adult world. He tries in vain to make contact with the people he sees, but they cannot hear him. He can see his life played back to him, but there is nothing he can do to change it.
For each new creation, Theatro Terra works with a new team of specialists, and the effects deployed here will make your head spin.
