A world away from the Buto tradition, Takeshi Yazaki explores some of the other horizons opened up by traditional Japanese dance.
Takeshi Yazaki serves up an alternative vision of Japanese society, an imagined version informed by his Franco-Japanese sensibility. Filled with magic and laughter, the show slips nimbly from mime to dance and back again.
In this performance Takeshi Yazaki invokes the concept of "Ma", one of the fundamental forces in Japanese culture. Similar to space-time, "Ma" comprises both the interstitial space and the connections it holds. Yazaki revels in the exploration of these liminal zones, the twilight between day and night where beings and their shadows melt into one: a subtle dialogue between body and space.
