La Nuit Venue

Somewhere between mime, clowning and mask theatre, this show invokes the absurdist comic heritage of Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati...

A bunch of employees go about their daily tasks: sorting, selecting and storing away files; stamping, stapling and signing mountains of paper work… The relaxed atmosphere in the office means they spend more time laughing and joking by the coffee pot than they do at their work stations. But suddenly a telephone rings, destroying the cosy vibe. A higher power orders the team to be more efficient – immediately – and a new boss is appointed… Recent years have witnessed the rise of a new phenomenon in the corporate world: suffering at work. Under pressure from the ever-growing demands of their managers, employees are falling victim to frenetic working rhythms, harassment, stress and more. Relationships are becoming strained, bodies are tensing up, strange symptoms are beginning to rear their head. The constant pressure is creating a climate of fear and nurturing a sense of individualism...
Largely told without words, Hop hop hop! is an original creation by Compagnie La Nuit Venue, depicting the lives of employees suffering under the brutal yoke of their professional hierarchy. These characters represent out-sized depictions of familiar fears, but also of the complexity and cruelty of which people are capable. Even if their endless naivety and curiosity are the source of much comedy…
The art of posing, attention to detail, controlled slowness: these five profoundly fragile office workers stumble, trip, fret and wonder at the world around them…
