Cie La Gargouille
Seated on an s-shaped sofa, a puppeteer and a "robot" puppet of the same size engage in discussion… But are there really two of them? Are they not really one and the same being? In this dual narration, is not each movement toward the other really a movement toward the self?
Idem Esse (the same being) refers to that which emerges from a shared essence. In five short vignettes, the show illustrates an astonishing corporeal confrontation with the self. In which each character sees themselves in the actions of the other, at different stages in their life. Here the puppet reveals our own acts.
Although this system endows the puppet with natural, precise and refined movements, its unique way of moving contrasts with the unrealistic movements of the puppeteer. A way of moving that is different from that of the robot, whose automatization corresponds to precise functions. The puppet's movements reflect those of humans, but their rhythms are infinite, switching from slow movements to slight, rapid little jerks. The mimographic design is based on simple postures and pure movements. The relationship between the protagonists is two-way. Constantly attentive to the puppet's reactions, the puppeteer moulds itself to its movements, thus becoming an extension of the puppet.
