Two men live in a cramped, dilapidated room in which they are totally “immersed” (their clothes even match the wallpaper). Since they’re both rather ingenious, the lack of space isn’t a problem. Each object serves multiple purposes: the bed doubles as a piano, the bookshelf is also a fridge. And to make up for the lack of female company, the two friends have built themselves a robotic maid. But they soon realise that this servant has a mind of her own, and it’s out of their control...
Performed by three actors and two musicians from rock band Alamo Race Track, Lebensraum sets out to explore the unconscious and the complexities of human life, revealing its tensions and reminding us of the hidden meaning of our favourite fairy tales… Inspired by the work of Buster Keaton (“Lebensraum” is set in the location of the first scene in his film The Scarecrow), this show is a vibrant homage to the burlesque joys of silent cinema. The result is a show of vibrant imagery and boundless imagination, dramatic power and deceptive appearances, bringing the magic of silent movies to the stage.
