Théâtre de la mezzanine
L'étoile filante questions the reality of all forms of competition (sporting, ideological, financial, economic), in contrast to the speed and freedom symbolised by the bicycle.
Men do battle on a velodrome track, as the watching women gawp, cry and cheer them on. The races are followed by balls, sometimes joyous and sometimes tragic, but always powered by the quasi-animalistic desire to find love and to rebuild. Even after the worst atrocities, the dancing starts up again.
Cycling and dancing, battle and desire, are the alternating forces which propel the 20th century onwards, through times of war and peace – right up to the surprising finale...
