Imagined by Chloé Hernandez and Orin Camus, L’Homme Assis is the story of a very strange character. Chained to his desk, he modulates his movements so that body, desk and chair soon become part of the same hybrid being. Illuminated with elaborate lights, images and films, and accompanied by a sumptuous electronic soundtrack (Burial, Aphex Twin and James Blake), the protagonist’s tentative movements express his profound physical malaise. The body becomes fragmented, with dance filling in the gaps; the “human machine” gradually comes to life as the hands, feet, fingers and joints kick into action. The mind of the seated man wanders as he explores fantasies, battles fears, overcomes resignation and exaltation with the calm indifference of the solitary hero: and, at long last, he stands...
